What is the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)?
CHSP is an entry-level in-home aged care support program managed and developed by the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Aged Care. This scheme is specifically meant for older people who need some level of support to live independently within their home. CHSP follows a flexible approach and strikes a balance between receiving support and maintaining independence. The participants can access the support they need when they need it while exercising their choice and control.
To be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, the applicant must be –
- Aged 65+ (50+ over for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples) and have functional limitations needing assistance.
- Prematurely aged low-income individuals (50 years or older, or 45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples) who are either:
- Homeless or facing the risk of homelessness
- Living in squalid conditions and are unable to receive the aged care services they need.
Apart from continuous support, CHSP offers respite services to help primary caregivers take a break from their caring routine while ensuring the safety and well-being of the participant.
Minimal Support, Maximum Well-Being

Under the CHSP scheme, we offer entry-level support to the participants – only as much as they need to live life on their own terms. We align with the values of CHSP to work alongside the participants and deliver the support they need to continue living within their homes. We focus on working with them rather than doing things for them and open the doors for an empowering care and support journey. At Caura, we are committed to providing exceptional CHSP services to support the participants in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and fulfilling lifestyle. All our services meet Aged Care Quality Standards and are tailored to meet the unique support needs of the participants.
